Frequently Asked Questions
And Resources For Our Customers
What’s it all About?
Below you will find answers to a lot of the questions we get. But first, we need to talk about the screening material we use manufactured by Phifer.
While enjoying sunshine, fresh air and maybe even a splash in the pool is always welcome, let’s face it – there are some aspects of outdoor living that even the most ardent nature lover could do without, including insects, pollen, mosquitos, and other nuisances.
Phifer manufactures outdoor pool and patio screen to block most bugs and allow you to enjoy the great outdoors in comfort. Backed by more than 60 years of manufacturing and innovation expertise, our screening is suitable for use in a variety of screening projects to build the patio screen enclosure of your dreams. Similarly, many of the same screening products we offer are excellent for use in pool cages and enclosures — keeping most bugs out and cool breezes inside when you’re enjoying the pool, and keeping your pool free from leaves and other debris when you’re not using the pool, too.
No-See-Um Screening (20 x 20)
Known as NO-SEE-UM screen, this fiberglass screen is a tightly woven 20×20 mesh designed to keep out most smaller flying insects like no-see-ums, gnats, sand flies, and other bugs that may inhabit marshy or coastal areas. While densely woven, this screening still allows good ventilation and visibility and provides some daytime privacy. Phifer’s fiberglass screening is woven from permanent glass yarn which has been coated with a protective vinyl to ensure lasting beauty, color and flexibility. It is produced under the most exacting conditions to meet extremely rigid specifications. Fiberglass screen is noncombustible and will not rust, corrode or stain, making it perfect for windows, doors, patios, and pools.
Fiberglass Mesh Insect Screen (18 x 14)
The traditional choice for patio and pool enclosures, the 18 x 14 Fiberglass Mesh Screening from Phifer are designed for applications where extra strength is desired. Built to withstand debris from harsh winds and storms, keep out most insects and other unwanted guests, but still allow for cooling breezes to flow through, these fiberglass screens make the perfect choice for any space that’s exposed to the more severe elements.
PetScreen: Dog & Cat Resistant Screening
Phifer PetScreen is pet-resistant screening built to be tear and puncture-resistant in order to prevent damage by most dogs and cats, including clawing, chewing, and pushing. This pet-resistant screening also protects against non-pets who may also gnaw and scratch at screens. Ideal for use in high-traffic areas, PetScreen is highly durable but installs like regular insect screening, making it excellent for use in patio and porch enclosures as well as windows and doors. PetScreen provides excellent outward visibility and is not harmful to pets.

How long does a pool enclosure rescreen take?
Most standard pool enclosures can be fully rescreened within one day, depending on size and condition. We will certainly discuss timeline and start date during the estimate visit.
How long does a new pool enclosure screen last?
Phifer pool screens are known for their durability and UV resistance. On average, a Phifer fiberglass pool screen lasts 7–10 years under normal Florida conditions. With proper maintenance and less direct sun exposure, many Phifer screens can reach 10–15 years before needing replacement. Lifespan depends on factors like UV intensity, pool-chemical exposure, humidity, storm impacts, and overall wear and tear.
What is the difference between screen repair and a complete rescreen?
A screen repair fixes individual damaged panels, while a complete rescreen replaces all panels for a uniform look, better durability, and improved performance.
Can you install pet doors in screen enclosures?
Absolutely! We install durable pet doors that integrate seamlessly into your existing screen system.
Do you replace hardware like hinges, door handles, and Tapcons?
Yes. We replace hinges, key locks, thresholds, bug sweeps, door hardware kits, Tapcons, cables, and downspouts to keep your enclosure stable and secure.
